Pink Tutus and Dimpled Elbows
As World Ballet Day 2018 comes to a close, I thought it would be prime time to reflect on my session with some beginning ballerinas at the amazing studio, Kirova Ballet Academy in Hallandale Beach. This was the youngest class I have been invited to sit in on, and I can tell you, I don't think I stopped smiling through out their entire session. The giggles, laughter and unabated enthusiasm to just dance was infectious. Freedom from any care, new friendships made while holding hands, bouncing curls and pointed toes, all a reminder to why the art of dance is so fulfilling to all the dancers I have had the pleasure of working with. Before there was auditions, and intensives..there was just that love to dance. Music and movement filling a every day void of wanting more. So I hope on this day, and every day for that matter, all the older dancers out there remember to just...dance...and laugh...and giggle...and make new friends! And thank your Mom, because I bet it was her dream before you even realized it was yours. She was the one perfecting that bun, for always having snacks and extra bobby pins at the bottom of her purse. And the one loving and watching and taking dozens of photos of you when you were young so you never forget that little beginning ballerina with a pink tutu and dimpled elbows.
