I had been looking forward to this session for a good month! Two beautiful sisters that also were dancers..how fun is that? Their mother and I had been going back and forth on outfits and locations and seemed to be all set when the big day finally arrived. That big day however was the day after a monsoon swept through Cooper City, and while it was a gorgeous day when we were to do our session, it didn’t cross my mind the overwhelming population of mosquitoes that would be there to welcome us. They were not my friend that day. In fact they pretty much ate me alive. I’m a photographer, and I’ve been doing this a pretty long time, but I’ll admit this knocked me off my feet. But through it ALL, these girls were..AMAZING, they didn’t complain, didn’t make any comments on my ever swelling face, didn’t say a thing about the humidity…they were really unbelievable, and I can’t honestly thank them and their fantastic mother for their total understanding and compassion for the situation. First thing I did when I got home was text the client to make sure they were not in the same miserable state as I was. Luckily their Mom was smarter then I and diligent on the bug spray so the girls didn’t get quite as bad as me, however they did get their fair share too. Ill admit I was embarrassed after I got home from this session. How could I have not known this, planned more accordingly? Truth is, I’m human. Sometimes photographers scout out a location with the best intentions for the session and the look we are hoping for, but sometimes, it just doesn’t work out the way we planned. All we can do is power through, keep our composure and continue to strive forward to get that perfect image.
I have admit, I LOVE these photos. I LOVE this family for sticking with me and not throwing in the towel. All the time their Mom spent planning their outfits, along with the location really looked unbelievable…BUT..next year, I promise…an indoor shoot!

“Find that magical place in the world, and live there.”
I just LOVE this session, I really can’t say enough about it.
These images had been living inside my imagination since I saw their costumes. And I can’t thank these gorgeous girls enough for having the patience and enthusiasm to help me create something beautiful. They are not only talented, but true artists up for whatever it took to get the shots we were aiming for. They are graceful and elegant, whimsical and ethereal, but also tough and driven. And I can’t be luckier to be a small part of their journey.
I hope they look upon these images in years to come with the same awe I felt when I took them.

Meeting over coffee with these two lovelies was a dream come true for me. I had been imagining this session for a long time now, so when it finally came together I honestly couldn’t have been happier! As a dance photographer, I think its so important to not only capture the technique of the dance, but the FEEL and DRAMA of it too. I wanted a vintage story telling feel for this session, for us to remember the excitement and fun they have when they are preforming in the theater! Beauty, drama, and happiness all the things that bring me to tears when I am watching a performance.
I can’t thank these girls, their Mom and my close friend and choreographer enough for creating this vision with me. I know it wasn’t easy…I think it was border line 100 degrees this day… but when I look at them I see nothing but joy, happiness, friendship and the overall love for dance.

AWESTRUCK: adjective 1. overcome or filled with awe.
The word I would choose to sum up how I felt after spending an afternoon at Artistic Dance Center in Miami, FL.
I had planned on just sitting in on 1-2 classes that day, but ended up staying there all afternoon. The level of commitment and drive in all the girls attending the intensive classes there was just amazing. They were of all different ages and levels, but they shared one common thing…the complete love of dance!
I learned a lot that day, and I am hoping to use those tools in my upcoming dance sessions.
I want to thank everyone at ADC for being so wonderful to me, and I can’t wait to photograph there again!

This is what happens when a close friend invites us over for a wonderful dinner at her new home. I get to do an improptu fun photo shoot with her crazy beautiful daughter! And lil Miss B isn’t just completely adorable , she is also exceptionally smart and a blast to be around, and not a bad magician either.

When I get to photograph dancers I get the fun part. The artistic beautiful roll of capturing all their hard work into one priceless photo. But I know all their technique and talent came from hours upon hours of training and discipline! So this summer I reached out to a few studios and choreographers to see if I could sit in on the classroom/studio where all the real magic and hard work happens. And to say it mildly…I was blown away!
These girls, on a beautiful summer night, while my kids are home eating popcorn and watching their 100th movie on their vacation…CHOOSE to come to the studio to work hard, to sweat, to push their limits, to learn new and innovative choreography, all because they truly LOVE to dance. I watched and listened while I was able to document the passion that is shared in this room! I watched while their teacher, Liana Marie Alvarez, pushed and expected so much from them, because she too, LOVES to dance and LOVES these girls she gets to teach. It is a powerful thing to watch…an amazing thing to witness. And I know for a fact it made me a better dance photographer!
Thank you to Liana and all the girls at Performance Edge for allowing me to see just a morsel of all you do everyday for the love of dance!

I remember, not so long ago my own daughter at this age. And how much I LOVED seeing her all dressed up in her costumes. So this session brought back a lot of memories, and reminded me just how fast time flies. I am so glad this lil dancers Mom asked me to do this session, because I know from my own experience how much she will treasure them in a few years. Since she lives just down the street we were able to tootle around our neighborhood together and do some fun shots in some familiar places. Im loving watching Miss M’s love for dance grow as she gets older..she just has to promise not to grow up TOO fast!

Its always fun to explore a new location especially when you get to do it with someone with so much energy and ideas like this awesome girly! We had a great time finding new and unique spots to shoot at, including a parking lot with the coolest floor to ceiling art that felt like our own lil studio. And a HUGE shout out to her Mom for not only coming fully equipped with some fun outfits, but for also recruiting some skaters for a ‘skater punk’ shot’! Both Miss A and her Mom are a blast to work with, and I can’t wait to watch this dancer grow in the years to come!

Sisters, and they BOTH dance. I barley slept the night before I was so excited! I had met the girls previously when we did photos for the Shake the Ground session, so I already knew they would be a blast to photograph, and they were up for ANYTHING, back alleys, parking garages, graphic walls the whole shebang! It was also great to have our own personal bodyguard (aka, Dad) that shadowed us the whole time! Thanks Dad! They were creative, fun and oh so talented, which made this an amazing session and really fun for lil ol me!

I get to meet some unbelivable girls…and parents TOO! Miss K was so quiet and exquisite to photograph. She even agreed to make her Mother and me happy and wear her GORGEOUS ballet costume…which I was absolutely in love with! She was so easy and wonderful to work with, and I loved every minute of it, even though we were both melting a lil bit. Her Mom was just as awesome, and was up for any adventure I presented her for the day in a location that was new to me. Thank you Miss K for being so patient with me and my “Just one more” and for being just as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside!
